Lagos Vistoso Homeowners -
Below is an update from Estrella Water Systems who manage the lakes at the community...
Just wanted to follow up on the report of multiple dead ducks in lake 11. The lake was checked, and there was one found. The Canadian geese that have been around for a while were also spotted on the same lake and it is possible that they are aggressively protecting their goslings and that, along with other possible predators, could account for a dead duck here and there.
As to the report of someone being out in a boat treating the lake yesterday, that did not happen. I checked with the other two companies who may have had a reason to have a boat in the water and neither one of them were on the property yesterday. I did, however, treat the east end of lakes 11 and 13 from shore when I was there yesterday morning.
As far as any chemical treatment causing mortality of waterfowl, that would not be the case. The algaecide that is used is EPA registered and is safe for fish as well as irrigation use. Also, if there was an issue with chemical treatment it would affect the fish, not ducks or geese.
As usual, I am spot treating the lakes wherever possible for the microcystis algae that is prevalent this time of year as well as adding dye.
I am also attaching an article regarding feeding waterfowl and botulism in case you would like to share it with the community.
